Podgora & Drašnice Outdoor
The mountains, sun and sea are three ingredients that have come together to create the exciting and challenging cyclo-tourism routes and the other features od the Makarska Riviera. Podgora has developed into one of the most picturesque destinations. In addition to the bauty of the town, its beaches and attractions, Podgora is also proud of its specia attachment to Mt. Biokovo. Here is where the 30km climb begins to the very top. From the hills above the town, through the olive groves and refurbished old houses, the view overlooks Hvar Island and the Pelješac Peninsula, while if you climb even higher, the view extends much further out over the open sea towards Italy.
Coastal Routes:
The majority of cycling trails in Podgora follow the coastline, making them ideal for those looking to combine recreation with the pleasure of a Mediterranean landscape.
Podgora – Tučepi – Makarska
This route is perfect for a relaxing ride. It leads through shaded forest paths and peaceful coves, accompanied by the scent of pine trees and the gentle sound of waves. Ideal for families with children, couples, or anyone wanting to explore the Riviera at an easy pace. The total length is approximately 20 km, mostly on asphalt roads, with a few sections on natural gravel paths.
Makarska – Drvenik
This longer route is part of the renowned European cycling network “EuroVelo 8 – The Mediterranean Route,” which also passes through Podgora. The trail is around 56 km long with moderate elevation gain (up to 1,000 meters). Mountain Routes – For Experienced Cyclists and Adventurers
For thrill-seekers and those looking for a physical challenge, the rugged Biokovo landscape offers a unique opportunity for mountain biking adventures and one of the highest road climbs in Croatia.
Podgora – Biokovo (Skywalk & Sveti Jure)
Starting from sea level, you gradually ascend toward the Biokovo Nature Park. One of the most iconic routes leads to the Skywalk – a glass platform suspended over cliffs with jaw-dropping panoramic views. The boldest riders can continue all the way to the summit of Sveti Jure (1,762 m) – the highest paved road in Croatia. This route is long and demanding, but the reward is a spectacular vista that, on a clear day, stretches all the way to Italy.
